View Article  Party in aid of ASSIST

THE 'ASSIST' PARTY IS ON!

From about 7.00 pm on 17th March 2007

At Jane's House, Nether Edge.

Mood: Extremely informal. Someone 'official' from ASSIST will come, but so will (we hope) some of the people that ASSIST assists.

Purpose: To provide an relaxed setting where people can talk and listen to each other (and eat together). Nothing in the way of speeches, just an atmosphere of getting to know one another (like as in friends, maybe...).

Secondary purpose: A box or jar in a corner where donations can be left and leaflets or written information picked up.

Needs: I can think of two essential ones. The first is having people there, asylum seekers of course but even more importantly, congregation members. The second is food. Not fancy but substantial, and ideally stuff that can be easily eaten, without a lot of knives, forks, and mess.

The third need - of course, is just to be relaxed about the whole thing and let it be – fun!

Please could you e-mail Patsy if you are likely to be coming – and if you can help in any way. Offers of food would be most welcome.

Patsy would be delighted to hear from you

View Article  Some inspiring thoughts?

I was quite moved by this short article at:

http://www.ajws.org/index.cfm?section_id=8&sub_section_id=14&page_id=259

on the AJWS (American Jewish World Service) web site.

The title is:

"I am Jewish - Personal Reflections Inspired by the Last Words of Daniel Pearl"

(Note: The last words of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, who was murdered by terrorists in Pakistan, were, "I am Jewish." )

I haven't been along to any of our meetings, but maybe the thoughts expressed on that web page are consistent with where Jewish Social Action is heading.

What do you think?
